Yau Kung Moon Course GuidelinesWelcome to YKM!     The instructors will provoke an awareness of the spirit and philosophy of this powerful southern Shaolin short-hand style of martial arts through forms, weapons, lion dancing, and sparring. Class Schedule:     Every Saturday and Sunday. Class Uniform:     Black pants and top.     Flat, rubbered-soled shoes (black). Tuition:     Paid prior to instruction. Tuition is due the first Saturday of each month. Individual Conduct:     Except for authorized class breaks, all students are expected to focus on learning and perfecting martial arts or lion dancing. At no time should students be engaged in other non-kung fu related activities. It is expected that students are self-disciplined and can practice independently. Repeated disobedience will not be tolerated and may cause possible class suspension. YKM follows the traditional family concept that students are to help each other and view each other as brother or sister. While other programs assign physical age as the measure for seniority, martial arts recognizes seniority in terms of when students began their training. Therefore, please learn to respect and help each other whenever possible. Learn who your older brothers and sisters are quickly. YKM Salute:     Traditionally, salutes vary depending on which school you attend. A salute is extremely important as it represents not only honor and commitment, but more importantly, respect. When done properly, the YKM salute not only represents respect, honor, and commitment, but projects the essence of the YKM shorthand form of defend and attack methodology. Please make sure to salute your Master, senior students, and other elders. It is of great disrespect to enter and leave the presence of your Master without saluting. Tardiness:     As in taking any class, it is important to arrive to class ON TIME. As the instructor(s) have a responsibility to set forth a foundation in the principles of martial arts during the time allotted, it is the student's responsibility to be ready for instruction when the class begins. Instructors are not paid. They have given up their weekends and time to promote the YKM system. Please don't waste their time. For students of the 3-hour instructional period, if you are tardy, do not join the class while instruction is taking place. Wait until the instructor acknowledges your presence, then quickly join the class. At the next available class break, you will be expected to explain your tardiness. Due to the serious nature of tardiness, do not attend class if you cannot arrive within one half hour of the class starting time. It is important not to rush into the forms and kung fu exercises. The warm up exercises are fundamental and necessary before proceeding with the forms. Repeated tardiness may result in disciplinary action. Food and Drinks:     No food or beverages are allowed in the practice areas. The practice areas are the main practice room and the punching bag area. Do no leave your food/beverage at the school as we must share in the responsibility in keeping the school clean and safe. |
